Tip No. Certain parts can be disassembled and re-assembled again, but not all. I cannot stress this point enough. The white side should be facing inside the cabinet, and the brown side should be facing outwards.
Using IKEA Cabinets in a Custom Van Camper Build
In the very first cabinet we assembled, we made the mistake of installing the brown side facing inward; now, we have to find matching paint just to paint the inside of the cabinet white.
Remember how I said certain parts of the assembly are irreversible? Well, this is one of those parts. IKEA offers two heights for the upper cabinetry: 30 and 40 inches, and I suggest opting for the inch ones. Keep in mind that the distance between the lower and upper cabinets should be approximately inches.
More on that later. Off we went to IKEA, which, by the way, is about two and a half hours away. You live and you learn, right?
Oh, how I wish.
Moral of the story: Do a product inventory as soon as possible! Those little guys are plastic and will snap and chip the second a heavy weight is placed on them. Trust me, I know! When installing the bottom cabinets, screw in the legs all the way, hang the cabinet on the suspension rail, then unscrew each leg so that the cabinet is level. If your floors are uneven like ours, each leg height will be slightly different. Next on the list is to figure out the kitchen peninsula situation.

To me, that seems too heavy to mean the internal shelf - but if it's the unit as a whole, would both be limited to the same weight? Has anyone used these units with a large screen or something equally heavy? The quoted weight for the TV plus pedestal stand is 40kg. Thanks for listening!
Ah, wait a tick Looks like it probably means if the unit as a whole is used as a shelf and fixed to a wall. Still be nice to know if anyone is using one - don't want it spilling my pride and joy on the floor Cheers. How did you get on with the besta unitsi was thinking of getting some. Maybe 1 small and 1 large. Hi Im not sure if your intention is to screw the besta system to the wall or leave it floor standing but i thought id post some pics of my besta set up which i just left on the floor.
I can recommend it for its sheer flexibility Have to say i would be slightly nervous resting the panel on it if it was wall hung! Got the units at the weekend and now have them in place. Needn't have worried at all. Although they're quite lightweight they do seem pretty sturdy.5 TRICKS & TIPS! - HOW TO INSTALL AN IKEA KITCHEN GUIDE
Mark - I'd just check out the dimensions of the units 1st hand before you buy. The quoted depth is 40cm, but the back panel is set in a couple of cm, so you might struggle with some equipment. I used a 62mm hole-saw to cut an opening for cable access on all panels except for the unit with my receiver in, which had to be butchered somewhat to cater for the speaker binding posts.
Ikea Kallax Shelving - Help with weight considerations
Still, you can't see the hole once the receiver's in place. One other thing, if you go for the sliding doors as I did, make sure you have some spare screws to attach the rails, as the heads seem prone to shearing off of the ones supplied. Having said that, very happy with the results.
Very nice. We have so got to decorate! Probably should have thought of that before buying all of this stuff. I like the idea of hiding the lower shelves on mine when not required. Cheers, Steven. This quick primer on the basic elements of the system will help you navigate through the many options.
Since base cabinets occupy floor space, they effectively define the footprint of your kitchen. Sink bases are a special type of base cabinet.
They don't have drawers or other obstructions at the top, to have space for a drop-in sink. Here are the options for IKEA sink base cabinets:. Corner bases are L-shaped cabinets that fit neatly into the corner of rooms. Most corner base cabinets can be ordered with either right-opening or left-opening doors. While this choice matters, it is less important than it may seem. Most ends of your cabinets will butt up to other ends or appliancesso you will never see them.
At the very most, you will have two exposed ends; often, you will have none. Frame color matters most on the inside.
Do you want to continue the wood-look into the box? Or do you want a clean white interior? IKEA's names for door and drawer front styles are not descriptive, so you have to sort them by sight alone. Always look for any notes on the product description to make sure the doors or fronts are compatible with the cabinet boxes and with specific types of hinges and other hardware.
Legs and toe kicks are sold separately. Legs are required to keep the cabinet boxes off of the floor. Toe kicks are optional and are not used with all legs. The countertops can run unbroken along the entire spread of the base cabinets except for intentional breaks, such as for sinks. Widths: IKEA base cabinets come in the following range of widths: 12, 15, 18, 24, 30, 36, 38, and 47 inches. Most kitchens make heavy use of cabinets in one of two widths: or inches wide.
These are considered the "meat and potatoes" of any cabinet system, as both can accommodate sinks although IKEA's inch-wide cabinet can also hold a small sink. The three smallest sizes 12, 15, and 18 inches tend to be filler or end cabinets. The largest sizes 38 and 47 inches are corner cabinets. The standard depth for kitchen cabinets is about 24 inches.
IKEA's options for cabinet depths are 15, 24, and Height: You have no choice on height. All base cabinets are 30 inches. After you add the legs, the total height becomes The kitchen is gaining more and more prominence inside a home.
What used to be only a place to cook in which little time was spent, has now become the meeting center of the house. IKEA kitchen cabinets or basic modules are part of the furnishing solutions of an economic category and for this reason there are many people who question their real value. When you have to buy a kitchen, generally, you pay much more attention to the quality of furniture and appliances because you know a kitchen can last even decades!

Keep in mind that, unlike other brands, IKEA kitchens are usually quite simple to assemble so consider also the possibility of arranging assembly, especially if your budget is limited.
The same applies to transport: if you have the opportunity to go personally to an IKEA resale and transport everything with a vehicle at your disposal you should do so well rather than order everything online or at home. This will also avoid the inconvenience of possible delays, and will certainly save you a lot. In all cases, however, you should always check that everything has been delivered: it is not uncommon for IKEA to forget something or in the various blocks something is missing.
Also carefully check the condition of the tops and of the various pieces of furniture: it would be a pity to find a defect after assembling the piece.
The quality-price ratio plays a key role in the choice. In addition to a wide range of cabinets and fronts, there are many sinks and faucets, drawers and handles as well as the practical interior organizers you need to make your new kitchen an organizational model.

I was also keen on using all the IKEA organizing products that are designed specifically for their kitchens: drawer organizers that fit perfectly and maximize the space, waste bins that are the right size, storage bins that stack, and so on. In a small space this efficiency would have a big impact.
I also knew that the fit and finish of these cabinets would be better than would I could accomplish myself with my tools. Also, it would save a ton of time. Instead of building from scratch, I would assemble the pieces and drop them into place so that I could focus on the other ten billion projects that building a tiny home on wheels requires. I actually have a fair amount of experience with these cabinets and their durability and quality in somewhat extreme conditions.
About 11 years ago, I was building a house in the mountains of Panama and considered using IKEA cabinets for this house. People immediately told me I was crazy. But, was this idea crazy? All these seemed like reasonable concerns but, long story short, I ended up finding another expat couple in a nearby town same climate who shipped IKEA cabinets down to Panama and installed them in their house about three years earlier.
They were kind enough to offer a visit and had nothing but good things to say about the cabinets. The door and drawer fronts are made from a variety of materials depending on the style you choose link to their kitchen cabinets catalog.
The drawer slide itself was broken from the force and the door front was smashed up too. I was able to make that repair in less than a half hour in the parking lot with only a screwdriver.
If this was a custom built drawer that repair would have been impossible and that situation a much bigger bummer. There are some important things I did to minimize the limitations of these IKEA cabinets in a camper van context.
Note: this section of the post was updated in February of to reflect my latest build. So, latches are very important. After much experimentation in my firstand now my second build.
I ended up using grabber latches for most of the drawers and doors. However, in this location, these type of latches were too big tall for the shorter drawers and I needed a different type of latch. One of them is circled in red. So, I had to add a horizontal support at the correct place for each of these 3x drawers in order to install the push button latches. IKEA calls their kitchen cabinets Sektion.
They sell a huge variety of individual cabinet configurations which are organized into three categories. Some have only doors. Others only have drawers. Others have drawers with hidden drawers inside. There are more options that you would imagine! Then you would distinguish them build them out with the components included with that model.
